blue smokey FOTD & EOTD

I decided to do something similar to yesterday with smoky eyes but with some blue and only smoked above the lashline, leaving the lower lashline fairly clean. I haven't used MAC Blankety lipstick in what feels like ages and I remember what I really like about it. It's a nude (neutral really) with life. This was the first time using the Jemma Kidd Light As Air Liquid Foundation SPF18. It provides a decent medium coverage with a matte finish. The shade is a pretty close match veering on the light side- perfect as we head into winter. I applied it using a Real Techniques Buffing Brush and it was very simple to apply and blended in very easily. More thoughts on that later. My second day wearing the B for Bloom concealer (today OVER Benefit's Stay Don't Stray primer and topped with Laura Mercier's Brightening Powder) resulted in immediate creasing as you can see in the close-up eye picture ( not to mention the bloodshot goodness- apologies). I'll see how it goes for a few more days before passing a verdict. Wishing you a beautiful day whenever you may be.

Smoky Flower Perfection FOTD

Today is my first time trying the Bourjois Flower Perfection foundation. Described as a "Youth Extension" makeup that provides a matte, full coverage, I found this applied really easily using a Beauty Blender sponge to give a really flawless finish. I found the shade #53 a teeny bit on the pink side, but definitely workable. With one layer I could ever so slightly see freckles and dark spots, but felt I need not apply a second layer. So definitely a thumbs up for coverage, and I did powder it down with a loose finishing powder, but the finish was pretty matte on its own. Interested in seeing how long til first touch up and how it looks at the end of the day.

I also used the B by Bloom Quick Fix Concealer Kit in Light- Medium for the first time today under my eyes. I used the yellow shade first to help correct and brighten, followed by a preacher shade over top. I used the brush it comes with to apply it to the desired area, and then my finger to pat it in. Looks good at application. Will be interesting to see how long it lasts- a definite issue I have with concealers!

Loving the more dramatic smoky eye for a change- have been stuck in a light lid, darker crease neutral rut for a while. Thanks for sticking with me, ad wishing you a beautiful day whenever you may be.

Neutral FOTD with BareMinerals READY 4.0 quad in The Truth

These READY shadows from bareMinerals are really lovely and this quad is a perfect everyday neutral combination of shades for those who don't mind a bit of shimmer. With really nice pigmentation, a slim sleek compact (albeit with the same rubbery finish that's prone to smudgy marks the minute you even look at it similar to NARS eyeshadow & blush packaging) two gorgeous mid-tones (one cool and one warm- both beautiful lid or crease colours), a perfect slightly shimmery highlight shade and a great deep shade, this ticks all the boxes for me. Especially for taupe lovers, this palette would also be a perfect palette for those traveling for work.

This palette can't be found within Aussie brick and mortar yet as far as I know (stay tuned to Kit Cosmetics - they're our only hope) but strawberrynet does stock some of this range - quads for $AU36.50 and also duos for $AU24.50 (every day FAST free shipping- LOVE THAT).

What's your favourite eyeshadow palette?

Hope you have a beautiful day,

- Jodi xo

Neutral EOTD using Loreal HIP purpley duo

TOP: MAC Beauty Marked Eyeshadow

BOTTOM:Loreal HIP Metallic Shadow Duo- Sculpted

Surprise!!! .... Yet another nude neutral look. This time, instead of reaching for the usual browns and nudes I used this beautiful Loreal HIP eyeshadow duo in the Sculpted- it's a gorgeous pinky purple on one side that I used to create a diffused blend above the crease, which I then defined with the darker purple shade on the other side of the duo right in the crease and also to blend out the liner pencil above and below the lashlines. This darker shade is what looks like to me an exact dupe for MAC Beauty Marked. This duo was a gift from my sweet friend Amy- she always knows what I'll like and has great taste and recommendations for makeup. Thank you Amy!!!

Hope you're all having a beautiful day wherever you may be,

SPOTTED: New Offerings at Priceline from Loreal & Bourjois

New at Priceline: Bourjois Flower Perfection Foundation: a full-coverage, matte anti-ager according to their packaging
Priceline has some new offerings from Bourjois on a couple different stands: the new matte, fuller coverage Flower Perfection foundation. Looking forward to giving that one a try. They've also extended their Healthy Mix range, adding a pressed powder that is described as a radiant matte...(!) Would be very interested in giving that a try- Also on this display is their new Touche Healthy Mix- a twist brush style "YSL Touche Eclat" wannabe, available in 3 shades. I am completely over these type products, so not so interested in those. I swatched the lightest 2 of the 3 shades and found a huge difference on my hand. Shade #62 was quite a darker pink shade, while the #61 seemed very very ivory. Have you tried any of these new products from Bourjois? I'd love to hear if you have and what you thought.

New Offerings at Priceline: Bourjois Touche Healthy Mix & Health Balance Compact Powder

New Loreal Offerings: (same old Aussie market shades of Loreal Infallible eyeshadows) Eyeliner & Mascara Luminizers for Brown, Blue & Green Eyes (nothing special, just coloured products with a bit of shimmer), and for the face, Lumi Magique Primer (think MAC Strobe-like consistency primer), and the Lumi Magique Foundation. I've also spotted the concealers too.

New from Loreal: Nude Magique BB Cream SPF12: Light Skin & Medium Skin
Loreal Nude Magique BB Cream- Medium Skin
Loreal Nude Magique BB Cream- Light Skin

Loreal also has some new offerings, including their Nude Magique BB Cream, available in 2 shades: Light Skin & Medium Skin. I did not purchase these, but wanted to make a few notes for you for now. Looking at the swatches above, you can see that the Medium Skin is a lot pinker than the Light Skin. Due to the fact that these self adjust with the 'colour beads' that are in them, I would go with the Light Skin if you have a warmer, more yellow toned skin, and the Medium Skin if you have a darker than fair complexion and have the cooler, pinker / rosier undertones to your skin.

When you first start rubbing this in, it feels like fine sandpaper- there are little microbeads that feel rough to the fingertips when you start blending. I believe these dissolve as you rub, and as the cream starts to 'self-adjust' the colour to your skin. Reminds me very very much of the Origins Vita-zing texture. If you were curious about that one from Origins but couldn't stomach the pricetag, maybe give this one a shot- very similar in my opinion, but perhaps this Loreal BB Cream is a little more matte. Once you're done blending, the roughness has completely gone. The coverage is very light, but it would do a great job of evening out an already nice complexion. If you like the Garnier BB Cream, I'm thinking you'd love this. It does seem to dry down quite matte, but without testing it on my face for a day, and seeing how it works with primer / powder etc, it's hard to say how long it stays that way.

Also of note, I didn't see any therapeutic skin benefits on the display for this product at all- much like the Garnier offering. The Asian brands really tote their whitening, anti-aging, complexion improving benefits, but not so the Aussie drugstore offerings. Wonder if that's more TGA related or if they simply are not the same thing?

Have you tried any of these products? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Have a beautiful day,

- Jodi xo

MAC Neutral Daytime FOTD

Seriously, you just cannot beat a bit of Woodwinked on the lid- it's so glorious. Hue lipstick is such a beautiful neutral glaze, and I'm gaga for anything Gaga that MAC has put out.

Today I'm trying for the first time the Lush Face Colour Tint (or Color Supplement depending on who you ask or what you read) in the shade Light Yellow that came out probably a year ago (maybe two- where does the time go?!?). You can use it as a heavy coverage foundation, concealer, or mix it with moisturizer for a customizable finish / coverage. I mixed mine today with Aveeno's Tinted Moisturizer and topped it with Laura Mercier's Translucent Finishing Powder. This gave a perfect, glowy complexion with amazing pore minimizing and great even coverage even over my dark pigmentation. I'll have to play a bit more to see if that's due to the Lush product or one of the others. Stay tuned....

... and have a great day wherever you may be,

- Jodi xo

speedy smoky olive-y green daytime FOTD

MAC Lipstick- Hug Me

Today I was inspired by a a super speedy FOTD that 'alovetart' did on YouTube this week (see it here: http://youtu.be/zcQZdB2Zeek), this is a look that's got impact, is really easy to do and is fantastic if you're in a hurry.

Today was also my official first day using Rae Morris's 27 piece brush set. I've been waiting for a
special day suitable for a ceremonious christening in front of the camera. The day hasn't come so bugger it! ... Expect a review coming up soon.

Undereye Concealers Compared

Just posting a quick photo swatch in response to a recent ginabinawina video on YouTube http://youtu.be/_7-piPD1Hwo  stating the Coastal Scents Bright Eyed Eye Brightener was a great formulation dupe for the Giorgio Armani Master Corrector. Since she only had the No.2 Giorgio Armani to compare with her Coastal Scents in Ivory, I thought I'd post a pic of the shades I have. I'd agree that the Coastal Scents works very well and for a significantly lower price.

Teal & Copper FOTD inspired by Amarixe

Inspired by a teal and copper "Emerald Dusk" tutorial that Amarixe posted on YouTube months ago http://youtu.be/LZsxNXky8cM. I'm pleased with this- it's colour without feeling too crazy. Finally have used this gorgeous gorgeous Steel Blue Pigment and the Inglot Matte Gel Liner. Both are absolutely gorgeous. I also received the Australis Mascara yesterday to reviews and used this for the first time today. Really fantastic first impression- the brush really gets a hold of your lashes (this is something I really love about Chanel Inimitable mascara and the Benefit They're Real mascara). Just like those, this mascara from Australia gives you volume and length with clump-free separation. Love!

EOTD using Mirenesse eyeshadows from March lusthaveit box

I received this Mirenesse eyeshadow trio in the most recent lusthaveit beauty subscription box. It contains three beautiful shades that are very pigmented. I have previously received another Mirenesse eyeshadow trio from my Nan, when she got it for free with her Women's Day back in October 2011. They kick up a bit of chalkiness, but not excessively, and I'm quite pleased with them, but have never purchased Mirenesse for 2 reasons:
1) their hefty RRP (although they are featured frequently on the Aussie discounted shopping sites that send those daily emails with deals.
2) I've never come across the brand's products in person to actually eyeball the range and swatch for myself.

Today was also my first try of my newest MAC Lipglass. They definitely do have longer lasting staying power as  the Pro Longwear range promises. What you see in the pictures is a blotted version of what it looked like freshly applied with the wand. There was some fading but I still had colour throughout the morning and I didn't touch up til after lunch. Love the shade!

Hope you have a gorgeous day wherever you may be,

- Jodi xo

neutral FOTD with a pop of purple

I wanted to try this Bare Escentuals palette as it's been sitting there looking at me forlornly for 2 months. I  love it. So versatile. Beautifully pigmented and it doesn't kick up any chalk whatsoever. This is now available on strawberrynet for any Aussies who are interested, at close to US RRP. There are 2 different 8-pan palettes ($AU43.50), as well as most of the duos ($AU24.50) and quads ($AU36) from the READY range. Beautiful shades, lovely pigmentation and long-lasting, I'm so looking forward to creating many other looks from this palette.
